WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Goldeyes are heading to the American Association playoffs.
The Fish rolled to a 6-1 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in front of a packed house of 7787 at Shaw Park Monday afternoon to clinch the wild card berth.
Lefthander Kevin McGovern pitched a complete game, two hitter in leading the Goldeyes to the 18th postseason appearance in Winnipeg’s 23-year franchise history. The win was also highlighted by Reggie Abercrombie’s 20th homerun of the season.
The RedHawks earned a split by winning a meaningless nightcap, 10-5 as Winnipeg finished with a 58-42 record.
The American Association playoffs begin Wednesday Night at 7:05 p.m. when the Goldeyes host St. Paul (61-39) in game one of a best-of-five semifinal. Game two will be Thursday before the series shifts to St. Paul for the remainder of the series beginning Saturday Night.
