WINNIPEG – Students and staff at St. Norbert Collegiate are mourning the loss of a 20 year teacher.
Science teacher Michael Slobodian was killed on his bicycle on the South Perimeter Wednesday morning on his way to school.
Superintendent Michael Borgfjord tells 680 CJOB he was well-loved and respected.
“Great teacher, great person, a real go-to individual for students and staff,” says Borgfjord. “He’s really one of the best out there.”
Students are posting tributes to “Slobo” on social media.
Police say Slobodian was riding his bike on the Perimeter near St. Anne’s Road when he was hit by the truck as it made a right hand turn.
The light was green, but police say charges against the driver are possible. They are still investigating what happened.
