WINNIPEG – One person has died and several others were sent to hospital after a rollover crash in the North End Tuesday afternoon.
It happened just before 4:00 p.m. at Boyd Avenue and Sinclair Street.
Winnipeg Police confirm one person died and four others were taken to a local hospital in stable condition. The driver in the second vehicle was not seriously hurt.
Const. Rob Carver tells 680 CJOB an officer noticed this car before the crash.
“There was something that drew their attention, their lights were activated, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed and ended up in a collision,” Carver told officers during a media briefing.
Since the crash technically happened during a police pursuit, the province’s police watchdog will be investigating.
“While it is a pursuit by technical definition, we did not actually, apparently, pursue the vehicle in terms of accelerating or moving after it,” Carver added.
Winnipeg Police are expected to have more information on Wednesday morning.
