WINNIPEG – A teenager has been arrested after a Taser was stolen from Winnipeg Police three weeks ago in the Exchange District
The weapon was taken during an altercation with officers on September 3rd in the area of Rorie Street and Bannatyne Avenue.
Investigators say two officer came to the aid of an injured man, but were confronted by large crowd. A struggle ensued which forced the officer to use the Taser which was then dropped.
Police believe the Taser was stolen while the officers were dealing with the crowd and the injured man.
Early Saturday morning, officers received a call of someone using a Taser in the same area from where theirs went missing in the Exchange.
No one was hurt and officers managed to track down the suspect to a suite on Mayfair Place.
Zekariyas Sirak, 19, was arrested and is facing a long list of weapon related charges. The Taser was also located and seized by police.
He remains in police custody.
