WINNIPEG – It’s your chance to get a closer look at what the long anticipated Waverley underpass will look like.
The city is holding an open house today to update drivers and business owners on the $155 million dollars project.
Project manager Cam Ward says construction could start as early as January.
He says plans include construction a four lane detour so traffic can keep moving through Waverley and Taylor during the two years of construction.
“Before we even start the underpass, the first thing we’re going to do is build a four lane detour. Two lanes northbound, two lanes southbound.”
That detour will be just to the west of the existing intersection.
Ward says the underpass will feature two lanes in each direction when it’s finished, with left and right turn lanes on the northbound side. There will also be space for those walking and biking.
The open house runs at the Caboto Centre on at 1055 Wilkes Avenue. There are two sessions. The first one runs from 3.30-5.30 p.m.
The second one goes from 7-9 p.m.
The open house is slated to be finished by 2019.
