Winnipeg – The Manitoba Moose won the battle of the Jets and Wild Farm teams with a 3-1 win in Des Moines, Iowa Friday Night in the AHL season opener for both teams.
Rookie Defenseman Nelson Nogier opened the scoring early in the second period on a setup from newly named Moose Captain Patrice Cormier and second year forward Jimmy Lodge.
After Iowa tied it up on the only goal allowed by Eric Comrie, Oakbank’s Quinton Howden restored the one goal Manitoba lead with rookie Jack Roslovic and Jets veteran Anthony Peluso helping out on the play.
Roslovic provided some insurance late in the game on a powerplay for his first professional goal. Nic Petan and Brian Strait drew assists on the play.
Comrie finished the night with 27 saves for the Moose who needed 7 games a year ago to record their first win.
The teams meet again tonight at 7 p.m. before Manitoba returns to Winnipeg for their home opener next Tuesday Night at 7 p.m. versus Bakersfield.
