WINNIPEG – We’re getting details today on a massive police operation that will see 20 people arrested and over 140 charges laid.
Investigators say they’ve broken up a semi organized theft ring that spanned across the four western provinces over the past year.
Nine people from in and around Winnipeg have already been arrested.
Winnipeg Police Inspector Barry Kostchuk says over $300,000 worth of stuff has been stolen.
“This includes vehicles, camper trailers, police equipment, snow blowers, lawn care equipment, building material, new tires, tools, key cutting machines, eletronics, blank passports and blank birth certificates,” says Kostchuk.
He says the thieves even stole police uniforms by breaking into a cruiser car.
Kostchuk says most of the suspects have ties to the drug trade and it appears selling these things for money was plan.
Eleven more people allegedly involved are still wanted and warrants are out for their arrest.
