WINNIPEG – It took fire crews a couple of hours to get the better of a house fire in Elmwood on Friday morning.
Platoon Chief Doug Martin tells 680 CJOB fire crews arrived at the scene on Jamison Avenue around 5:30 AM.
“Upon their arrival they found a house in the 500 block of Jamison Avenue fully charged with smoke,” says Martin. “They made entry, did a quick primary search and there were no occupants at the time. Because of the extension of the fire… they knocked it down on the main floor area but it had extended into the attic.”
The platoon chief says it was hard to get to the attic because of the construction of the home but they have the blaze under control.
The homes on either side of the fire were evacuated just to be on the safe side.
There’s no word yet on how the fire started.
