Winnipeg – The Edmonton Eskimos hopes of catching second place in the CFL West and a home playoff game pretty much evaporated when Edmonton lost in B.C. on Saturday night. The win moved the Lions into a second place tie with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, both 10-6, 4 points up on the 8-8 Eskimos. Edmonton would need to win its final two games against Hamilton and Toronto, AND have the Bombers and Lions both lose their final two games. Bombers close out with a home and home series against Ottawa while the Lions will play back to back against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The only team with complete control of the situation is Winnipeg. Bombers will finish second if they sweep the RedBlacks no matter what the Lions do because Winnipeg won the season series against B.C.
Second in the West could be decided as soon as the coming weekend. If the Bombers beat Ottawa Saturday, Oct. 29th at Investors Group Field, AND the Lions lose in Saskatchewan later that same day, then Winnipeg would clinch second spot.
