WINNIPEG – After months of recruiting and interviews, the Winnipeg Police Board has selected deputy chief Danny Smyth to replace Devon Clunis as chief of police who retired in July.
Smyth says he wants community engagement to remain a priority with operations conducted under fiscal restraint.
“I was born and raised here and I have skin in the game,” says Smyth. “Community engagement [is] important to me. It’s not lost on me that I am the first chief that the board has selected. I am humbled.”
The official swearing in ceremony will be a public event, taking place on November 8th.
