WINNIPEG – A courtroom is determining the sentence of Justin Hudson who pleaded guilty in December to two counts of aggravated sexual assault including a brutal attack on a 16-year-old girl.
The girl was walking near the Assiniboine River late one evening in November of 2014 when she was beaten, sexually assaulted and thrown in the river.
She dragged herself out of the frigid water, only to be beaten again with a hammer and left to die.
A passerby found her the next morning nearly frozen to death.
A teenage boy, whose case is still before the courts was also charged in the assault.
The girl wrote a one page victim impact statement that was presented at the hearing along with testimony from another woman who was attacked later that night.
She spent three days in a hospital with a concussion and severe injuries to her face.
Hudson will be sentenced for that assault as well.
The girl cannot be named due to a court order.
