Winnipeg – The injuries continue to pile up for the Winnipeg Jets. Rookie forward Kyle Connor is the latest casualty after being hit from behind by Kyle Clifford of LA during the first period of Sunday’s 3-2 shootout win over the Kings. Clifford received a five minute boarding major on the play, and Winnipeg scored a pair of power play goals to erase a 1-0 deficit at the time.
Connor was shaken up on the play, but stayed in the game. The Jets have placed him on injured reserve with what is being described as an upper body injury and have recalled Chase De Leo from the Manitoba Moose.
Connor joins the likes of Bryan Little, Drew Stafford, Shawn Matthias, Mathieu Perreault, and Joel Armi on IR while forward Alex Burmistrov and defencemen Mark Stuart and Tyler Myers are listed as day to day.
Connor has 1-3-4 in 16 games and is a team low minus 8. De Leo is coming off a two goal performance in Manitoba’s 6-3 loss at San Diego last Saturday, boosting his season totals to 3-4-7 in 12 games along with a minus 10 ranking which is the worst on the Moose. The Jets fourth round pick of the 2014 draft played 2 NHL games last season for Winnipeg and did not register a point in either game.
The Jets have picked up points in four consecutive games to improve their record to 8-7-2, good enough for second place in the Central Division. Tuesday Night, Winnipeg wraps up a brief two game homestand with a 7 p.m. faceoff against the Western Conference leading Chicago Blackhawks.
Earlier today, league scoring leading Mark Scheifele was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for Nov 7-13. The Jets fourth year center scored 3 goals and added 3 assists for 6 points in 4 games- and also scored the game winning shootout goal in Sunday’s victory.
