WINNIPEG – It’s something most of us take for granted every day; a clean pair of underwear and socks to put on in the morning.
But for people at Winnipeg’s Siloam Mission, those are just two more things they have to go without.
People living at Siloam have access to clothing every day but bins for socks and underwear remain nearly empty.
Judy Richichi, major gifts director at Siloam, says most of the people there only have access to clean socks and underwear once or twice a week.
“I wish we could give it to them every day but unfortunately the demand is much greater than what we can provide,” she says. “You don’t have access to washing machines so you’re not washing them every day.”
“The bottom line is you lose all sight of care for self and you’re really just trying to get through.”
That’s why Global News, 680 CJOB and Chudd’s Powersports are teaming up with Siloam Mission to kick off the second annual Knickers and Kickers campaign Tuesday.
We’re asking for donations of new socks or underwear all day, to help make sure everyone has some this holiday season. We’re also taking cash donations.
You can drop off your donations outside Polo Park between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and visit with some of our Global News and 680 CJOB on air personalities.
Last year, 3,200 pairs of underwear and socks and more than $1,000 were donated to the Knickers and Kickers campaign.
