WINNIPEG – Canadians are waiting longer than ever to get medical treatments according to a study by the Fraser Institute.
The think tank released its annual report on wait times and says we’re waiting on average 20 weeks between a referral by a GP to treatment.
Manitoba is slightly above the national average while the shortest wait times are in Ontario.
New Brunswick has the longest wait times at almost 39 weeks.
The Fraser Institute says this is the longest Canadians ever needed to wait since they started the annual study in 1993, when wait times were at just over nine weeks.
The report claims Canadians are waiting for about one million types of medical procedures.
