WINNIPEG – Christmas in Killarney, Manitoba is so picturesque, there’s even a song about it.
Ok, so it’s an Irish Christmas song about Killarney’s Irish namesake. But everyone in town knows the words to “Christmas in Killarney”.
Killarney Mayor Rick Pauls joined Shadoe Davis and show producer Kim Lawson, a Killarney native, for the December 1 small town salute.
“Small town Christmases are terrific,” Pauls says. “Christmas in Killarney is pretty incredible.”
After getting almost a foot of snow at the very end of November, the town is blanketed in fresh snow.
“This is one of the first years I can remember where we have a huge amount of snow on the ground, but we have no ice on the lake. It’s definitely a winter wonderland out here right now,” he said.
Pauls says one of the biggest draws to the “big small town” is Killarney Lake.
“A lot of people in cities on the weekend head out to the lake. In Killarney we live at the lake 365 days a year. Our community’s centered around a small lake so it’s like we live in cottage country,” he said.
Listen for Shadoe’s Small Town Salute every Thursday at 7:35 am on 680 CJOB.
