Winnipeg Transit will be offering free rides on New Year’s Eve once again.
The joint program with Manitoba Public Insurance will apply to all regular and Handi-Transit service starting at 7:00 p.m. until the end of service.
“The Free Ride program is an easy and convenient way for Winnipeggers to get home on New Year’s Eve while keeping our streets safe from alcohol-related tragedies,” said Councillor Marty Morantz, Chair of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee. “With the support of Manitoba Public Insurance, Winnipeg Transit is helping citizens to make the right choice not to drink and drive.”
MPI has sponsored the Free Ride New Year’s Eve service since 2011.
“We encourage people to plan ahead and make the right decision,” said Ward Keith with Manitoba Public Insurance. “Let’s start the New Year on a safe and happy note. The New Year’s Eve bus is a safe option to get home.”
Last year, more than 15,000 revelers used Winnipeg Transit on New Year’s Eve.
