WINNIPEG – It appears counterfeit gold bars have been popping up in pawn shops across Canada.
Winnipeg Police had been investigating suspicious transactions at pawn shops or with gold buyers throughout the city on Nov. 30.
Today police confirmed that similar incidents have taken place in other Canadian cities, where a suspect pawned or sold counterfeit one-ounce gold bars.
In Winnipeg, six bars were exchanged at just less than five thousand dollars.
The bars had either Perth Mint or PAMP stamps on them.
