WINNIPEG – After a month of cold temperatures, the river trail at The Forks is almost ready for skaters.
The amount of snow we’ve received has made it a little more difficult for crews to prepare the trail, but Chelsea Thomson with The Forks says it should be ready any day now.
“We will have an announcement as soon as it’s all a go. We were sort of aiming for Monday, but we have to play that game with Mother Nature every single time,” says Thomson. “It’s slightly snowing today so that could potentially mean that we aren’t able to flood. Every day is sort of up in the air depending on weather conditions.”
Should the trail open soon, that would be roughly two weeks earlier than last year’s opening day of January 21.
