WINNIPEG – All the snow that’s fallen this winter is hitting the city hard in the wallet.
The cost of plowing and cleaning up from the big storms in December was a whopping $19 million.
The city had only budgeted about $5.5 million dollars for snow clearing that month.
That means city hall is now in the red.
It overspent the 2016 budget by about $11 million when it came to clearing snow and is now facing an overall deficit of about $6 million that will need to be made up somehow.
This is in spite of $2 million that wasn’t spent due to a mild and relatively snow-free November.
