LOS ANGELES – After a disappointing effort in Arizona the previous night, the Winnipeg Jets were hoping to bounce back with a win in Hollywood against the Kings.
Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice juggled the lines to try and spark his team, moving captain Blake Wheeler up to the right wing on the 1st line with Nikolaj Ehlers and Mark Scheifele, Joel Armia was also moved up to the 2nd line.
Another change came in goal, Michael Hutchinson got the nod between the pipes, after coming in to relive Connor Hellebuyck for the past two games.
Marian Gaborik opened the scoring for the L.A Kings early in the 1st period after Anze Kopitar passed to him in front of the net.
In the 2nd Period Drew Stafford recieved Mathieu Perrault’s pass from behind the net and rifled a shot through a screen past Peter Budaj on the power play to put the Jets on the board and tie it up at 1.
Midway through the 3rd frame Dustin Byfuglien snapped a shot from the point that found the twine off of Kopitar’s skate, giving the Jets a power-play lead, and the go-ahead-goal to put them up 2-1
With 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd Dustin Brown picked up a loose puck after a blocked shot and roofed it over Hutchinson to tie it all up.
After regulation the game needed some 3 on 3 overtime. Jake Muzzin skated into the zone on a 2-1 and fed Jeff Carter, who made no mistake and ripped a shot Over Hutchinson, that propelled the Kings to a 3-2 OT Victory.
The Jets will take Sunday off and head in to San Jose to take on the Sharks Monday.
