Winnipeg – Rinks skipped by Jennifer Jones of St. Vital and Michelle Englot of The Granite continued to rule the roost with perfect 4-0 records after Day Two of the Manitoba Scotties Women’s Curling Championship at Eric Coy Arena.
Jones needed just five ends to defeat winless Colleen Kilgallen of East St. Paul 10-0 in the late afternoon draw. It was the third time in four games the reigning Olympic Champs won in five ends, and by that margin, as they’ve outscored the opponents 38-5 in just 23 ends so far.
In the evening draw, Englot overcame an early 2-1 deficit by scoring six unanswered points over the final four ends for an 8-3, eight end victory over Tiffany McLean of Portage.
But what a logjam forming behind Englot in the Red Group going into Day Three on Friday. Defending champ Kerri Einarson, #5 seed Darcy Robertson, and Cathy Overton-Clapham of Fort Rouge are all tied for second place at 3-1.
Einarson capped off her day with a 7-3 win over Beth Peterson’s Assiniboine Memorial rink on Thursday night while Robertson defeated Lisa Menard of Dauphin 8-6. And “Cathy O” rolled to a 10-3 win over Megan Armit of West Kildonan.
A couple of big games on Friday Morning’s 8:30 a.m. draw pit Englot versus Robertson and Overton-Clapham plays Einarson.
Jones continues her quest for perfection when she meets 2-2 Joelle Brown of Assiniboine Memorial at 12:15 p.m. And 3-1 Briane Meilleur of Fort Rouge will try to hold on to sole possession of second place in the Black Group when the #4 seeds square off versus 2-2 Shannon Birchard of St. Vital.
