WINNIPEG – The Manitoba NDP have booted Maples MLA Mohinder Saran from caucus amidst allegations of sexual harassment.
Saran had previously been suspended.
Caucus chair Tom Lindsey released the following statement after the decision was announced:
“Effective immediately, NDP caucus has determined that Mohinder Saran, MLA for Maples, will no longer be a member of the NDP caucus.
In order to respect the confidentiality of all parties involved, no further comment will be made regarding this decision.
The NDP caucus stands against all forms of sexual harassment.”
Saran was briefly a cabinet minister towards the end of Greg Selinger’s run as Premier.
Saran was suspended in November. Sources said he made inappropriate comments to a subordinate.
Earlier this month, the NDP had said Saran would be allowed back into the fold if he apologized and agreed to undergo reconciliation with the alleged victim.
