WINNIPEG – For the first time in his young career, Patrik Laine has been honoured as the NHL’s first star as the week.
The Jets rookie phenom racked up 5 goals and 3 assists in four games last week, leading the Jets to a 3-0-1 record.
Some of the highlights from the past week saw Laine pot a hat trick against the Dallas Stars, and had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory against the Montreal Canadiens.
So far on the season, Laine leads all NHL rookies in scoring with 52 points (28G, 24A) in 54 games. That has him tied with Alex Ovechkin for 16th in NHL Scoring.
Laine is also the first NHL Rookie to surpass the 50 point mark this season.
The Winnipeg Jets will be back in action on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs
