TORONTO- Jake Gardiner scored the game winner in overtime Tuesday night as the Toronto Maple Leafs won 5-4 over the Winnipeg Jets.
Both rookies Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine were showcased like the pro’s they’ll surely become in a short amount of time.
Matthews had three assists, and Leo Komarov scored twice for Toronto (28-20-11).
Laine scored twice for Winnipeg (28-29-6), and is the first rookie in franchise history to record 30 goals in a single season.
Next up for the Maple Leafs: hosting the New York Rangers on Thursday evening.
Our Jets are off for a week of well deserved rest before hosting the Minnesota Wild on February 28th.
