EMERSON – Canada’s public safety minister will be in Emerson today.
Ralph Goodale is expected to thank local officials who have helped those asylum seekers who have walked across the border from the US.
RCMP revealed this morning that 40 people had been caught between Tuesday and Friday, bringing the 2017 total to 183 people.
The premier sent a letter to Ottawa in recent days, outlining the situation. Brian Pallister wrote that while Manitobans are always happy to help out, the financial reality of doing so is beginning to wear on residents.
Border security officials have called for stepped-up enforcement and Goodale has said existing resources are being shifted around as required.
Goodale will be joined by MP Jim Carr, but is not expected to announce any new initiatives.
