WINNIPEG – New legislation is expected on Monday that could pave the way for ride sharing services like Uber to operate in Manitoba.
This isn’t sitting well with taxi services in Winnipeg.
President of Unicity Taxi Gurmail Mangat tells Global News the industry is feeling the pressure.
“We are [having] a very difficult time,” says Mangat. “We have invested so much money… in new cars and computers. Everything we have done is for the convenience of the people.”
Mangat added that there is no room for ride sharing in a city the size of Winnipeg and he believes his drivers would struggle to make ends meet if it does happen.
The Winnipeg Taxi Alliance says it is prepared for Uber, however they want it to operate on a level playing field with the rest of the industry.
