A marijuana rally took place outside the Manitoba Legislative Building Saturday afternoon.
The “Winnipeg 420” group is protesting the province’s proposed “Cannabis Harm Prevention Act” legislation, that would list marijuana as an intoxicant.
Cannabis advocate Steven Stairs says the bill is well-intended, but he has some concerns.
“There are specific, I guess you could call it lapses of consultation that were done with specific groups, such as medical marijuana patients regarding the ramifications and eventualities that could happen with this bill, without the consultation in place that allowed for protections and provisions that protected our rights that we have federally.”
Stairs fears the bill could drastically increase penalties involved with simple cannabis use.
The rally started an appropriate time for the group — 4:20pm.
