WINNIPEG – One of the signs of spring is construction season.
As you drive around the city you may already notice it starting to get underway, but as Ron Hambley of the Winnipeg Construction Association says – There is some nervousness in the industry.
“A considerable amount of our industry is very reliant on provincial and federal government spending. With the new government in place and the restrictions on expenditures at both the city and provincial level’s; we’re starting to see translate into projects being shelved… postponed… canceled.”
Some of the projects in jeopardy are commercial and industrial projects, including some multi-family housing.
Growth Fees are also impacting the construction industry heavily… Hambley says it will either drive construction outside of the city, or slow it down in the city.
