WINNIPEG – The experiment of keeping both Winnipeg casinos open all night long on weekends will now be permanent.
Karen Hiebert is with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries and tells Global News the pilot project was successful.
“At around 3:00 AM we would have about 200 or 300 people on the floor and those numbers stayed around the 100 mark over the later hours,” says Hiebert. “Overall we had an uptick in attendance and revenues.”
The casinos will be open 24/7 through Good Friday and Easter.
“People like to have the options for entertainment on what were traditional holidays in the past but our society is becoming more secular,” says Hiebert. “Fewer and fewer people observe those religious holidays [compared to] previous generations.”
Hiebert says they have not had an issue getting staff to work.
Time-and-a-half wages resulted in more than enough staff volunteering to work at Club Regent and McPhillips Station Casino.
