WINNIPEG – Starting May 1st, if you park in a fire lane, handicap spot or even in certain places around a school zone, you could get a ticket in the mail.
The “be aware, park with care” campaign kicks off today as the parking patrol will be keeping an eye out on parking lots near shopping malls, grocery stores and community centres.
Parking patrol officers will have the discretion to leave the ticket on your windshield or send it via mail.
The Winnipeg Parking Authority’s Ryan Arabsky explains why they’re launching this campaign.
“People are choosing convenience over safety and accessibility… what we’re hoping to do is get the message across that it’s important not to park in these spaces.”
The parking authority has a few vehicles using licence plate recognition technology with cameras to speed up the process.
