Province asking for input on municipal elections
_News Talk 770
6/11/2012

The provincial government is asking for input on changes to how municipal elections are conducted.   Mayor Naheed Nenshi is more than happy to let the province know how he feels especially when it comes to financing elections.
The mayor says changes made by the province may have had the best intentions but Naheed Nenshi says incumbents still had an unfair advantage.
Nenshi would like to see donations raised only one year before an election and lowering the maximum contribution to 25 hundred dollars a year.   The province is asking about term limits as well.
"I think campaign finance reform is the answer because as long as you have open free and fair elections where challengers have an opportunity to challenge then people should have the right to decide whether they want to keep their representatives around or not."
The province wants input by the end of July.
