Some sad news for movie buffs in Calgary. According to its website, management with "The Uptown" are blaming movie piracy and internet services like Netflix for the lack of feasibility in their "art house" product, and are ceasing operations. It was built in 1951 and operated as the Uptown Theatre until 1988. Current management bought the Barron Building on 8th Avenue downtown in 1992. The Uptown's screens have been black for months, as management and the property owners have reportedly been at odds over a number of issues.
