The NDP says it is a political move and should not have been done.
The Wildrose Alliance says the move is promising, and the Liberals say it is about time the government cut the rate.

Officials say the rates will be more in line with what they were before royalties were increased in January 2009.

The president of Canada Beef Export Federation says the country's 17th case of mad cow disease has not affected markets.
The beef cow was born in 2004 in Alberta, and the fatal degenerative brain disease was confirmed on Feb. 25.
Ted Haney says no markets have closed its doors due to this latest case, but it will delay Canada's move into a better status with the World Organisation for Animal Health.
Right now, Canada is categorized as being a controlled risk for bovine spongiform encephalopathy, the scientific name of the disease, and Haney says that category is costly for producers.
To apply for negligible risk status for BSE, a country has to have no cases for 11 years after the birth year of the youngest animal diagnosed.
Because the cow in the latest case was born in 2004, it means Canada cannot apply for negligible risk status until 2015.

A brain-injured baby whose parents dropped a court battle to keep him on life support has died in their arms.
The parents of Isaiah May had been seeking to consult with medical experts to review whether their son should be unhooked from the medical equipment that was keeping him alive.
Their lawyer says Isaiah was surrounded by his family when he died around noon.
The court had been slated to hear details about an independent medical review of the boy's condition, but the proceeding did not go ahead.
The baby was born last October with severe brain damage after his umbilical cord got wrapped around his throat, which deprived him of oxygen.
Doctors at Edmonton's Stollery Children's Hospital were planning to disconnect Isaiah from a ventilator on January 20th, but his parents persuaded a judge to give them time to get a second opinion.

The Calgary mother who was charged with manslaughter after her daughter overdosed on methadone in 2006 has taken the stand in her own defence.
Lisa Guerin testified she haD no idea 16 month old Summer had injested the drug when she left her in the care of her father.
A day earlier, a friend of Guerin told the trial Lisa knew the girl got into the methadone, which the crown prosecutor contends was left in a coffee cup on top of the television.
Amanda MacDonald testified on Wednesday Summer had an orange stain on her shirt, and when Guerin saw it she yelled out, "Oh my god, she drank Jonathan's methadone!" referring to her ex-husband, co-accused Jonathan Hope.
Guerin has testified she believes her daughter had pizza sauce on her face, but there was no orange stain.
Choking back tears on the stand, Guerin said she thought Summer had died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and didn't find out about the methadone until much later.
