Gary Mar is defending his work as Alberta's trade envoy to Hong Kong.
During the election campaign Wildrose leader Danielle Smith said if she were elected Premier, Mar would not be returning to his government post in Asia. Smith said she's heard that international offices are "not effective".
Mar is heading back to Hong Kong next Friday and tells 630 CHED's Alberta Morning News, the international offices help promote Alberta.
"We've got great relationships with Korea, Japan and China. We have the potential to grow even greater in other emerging markets, places like Indonesia and India," says Mar. "If you ask people who are part of the business community who travel to market, they will give you very good grades for the work that's being done."
Premier Alison Redford had ordered Mar to take an unpaid leave of absence while the ethics commissioner investigated a conflict of interest over a campaign fundraiser. (ks)
