With the first anniversay of the devastating wildfire less than a week away, the Town of Slave Lake is kicking off a month long series of special events.
Last May 15th an out of control, deliberately set forest fire burned into Slave Lake destroying hundreds of homes and causing three quarters of a billion dollars damage. Now, under the theme "One Year Stronger", the first of the semi-official events marking the anniversary will be held tomorrow (Thursday). The Slave Lake Tri Council is supplying the basics for community barbecue block parties that will continue until May 21st.
There will be a two day "building a resilient community" wellness conference starting tomorrow and then a community banquet on Friday. The official Town of Slave Lake event marking the first anniversary of the wild fire will be next Tuesday at the Field House. The arsonist has not been found.
