If you've been trying to figure out what kind of fires are allowed during all these fire bans, you're not the only one.
The phone lines are lighting up at Alberta Sustainable Resource Development, from people with all kinds of questions. The fire ban website even crashed at one point, because it was getting so many hits. But there's a relatively simple general rule of thumb when it comes to fire bans.
"If you're in a campground and you have an approved fire pit, then you can have a campfire," sayd Geoff Driscoll, wildfire information officer with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development. "But if you're outside of a campground or designated area, then even if you have a good firepit, you can't have a fire."
If you still have questions, you can find more information on Alberta Fire Bans here, or call 1-866-FYI-FIRE. You can find information on Edmonton's fire ban here, and there are details on Strathcona County's fire ban here. (bd)
