Picture yourself in a boat on a river and a girl with kaleidoscope eyes...who could ask for anything more?
A city couple's plans for a river adventure ended unexpectedly when their boat became stranded on a sand bar around seven Thursday evening. After failing to free the boat and swallowing his pride, the man phoned Edmonton Fire Rescue three hours later. He said he was on the river somewhere near Devon. Parkland County first responders looked but couldn't find anything.
Around midnight...another 9-11 call confirmed the clueless Gilligan's cell phone was pinging a tower near the Windermere Golf and Country Club in far southwest Edmonton. A fire department jet boat crew found the couple...the boat was pushed back into the water...and their adventure ended about eight hours after the ship hit the sand.
With the happy ending in the book, a veteran firefighter quipped: "if you want to be rescued, it helps to know where you are."
