The fire call to the building at 11919 88th Street came in minutes before 6:00AM.

Edmonton Fire Capt. & Investigator Lloyd Belair updates the media shortly after 7:00AM.

A man, believed to be an occupant of a unit on the fourth floor, was taken away by ambulance with life-threatening injuries. There's been no update on his age or on his medical condition after arrival at hospital.

The fire was put out quickly but some residents were evacuated until firefighters made sure the rest of the building was safe. The cause of the fire isn't known. (EM, ccg)
