Seed planted for downtown grocery store co-op
Hamilton Spectator
5/14/2012

There's a new push for a grocery store co-op in downtown Hamilton.

Under a co-op, consumers buy memberships and have voting power in the store’s operation.

A group of residents have formed a group called the Mustard Seed.

They say they envision a small urban store that sells local and organic food along with basic grocery staples.

They'd like to take advantage of a proposed city incentive giving 650 thousand dollars to a group that sets up a food store in the core.

There are already established co-ops in Toronto, London and Buffalo.
