It's about to get more expensive to operate a local business.
A proposal has been presented to city council that would more than double some licensing fees over five years.
The hikes are designed to bring local fees closer to covering the full cost of city services.
Planning committee members were told the city hasn't updated its fees since 2001 -- after amalgamation -- and the current rate doesn't don’t cover the costs of inspections and other programs.
Staff has been asked to asked report on how the new fees were calculated and for consideration to exempt farmers’ markets and road side fruit stands.
