"Downtown Relief Line" Could Serve Riders Better Than Sheppard Extension
Toronto/Am640 News

4/8/2012

There's an idea being floated around that the mayor has been campaigning for the wrong subway line.

A group of experts is suggesting a Downtown relief line would better serve TTC riders than the Sheppard subway extension.

The concept of a DRL was even identified by new TTC chief Andy Byford to reduce crowding on the south end of the Yonge line.

The idea would offer relief to the capacity problem at Union Station.

One idea would be for the line to start by running southwest from Danforth Avenue at Pape Station running past union station and ending at a secondary station at Exhibition Place.

Some suggestions say the line could continue running north past the Bloor line and into Scarborough as far as Eglinton Avenue and into Etobicoke on the other end.
