Coleman vs Jang over housing for the homeless

BC's Housing Minister is slamming the City of Vancouver over comments made by Vision Councillor Kerry Jang.

Jang had suggested the Province needs to take some responsibility for an increase in city street homelessness, blaming a shortage of shelter funding.

Rich Coleman says the city needs to realize where it gets its funding, citing 300-million Provincial dollars to build 15-hundred new supportive housing units.

"They (the City) have been a minor partner in this and usually a whining partner in this."

"So, if they're not happy with the investment and the buildings that we're building, I'm sure the Mayor of Surrey or other communities would be glad to have me have a discussion with them."

Coleman adds the City and Province have a good relationship but isn't surprised by Jang's criticism, "It's just absolutely irresponsible on his part but it's expected because he's never actually been a very good partner."
