Police are combing an area near the Port Moody Rec Centre after a man was shot multiple times and later died in hospital.

One witness reports getting out of her car around 9:30 p.m. and hearing what sounded like fireworks, "We heard the noise and looked at it, we saw just a bunch of flashes. We didn't think anything of it. We just saw the person that was behind the flashes but it was too dark, so we couldn't tell."

20 year old Sarah Johnson says she didn't know until later that it was someone being shot.

People are being allowed to come and go from the centre but if their car is in the parking lot behind police tape they'll have to wait until officers are done with it.
