Delta Police will be out in full force this weekend to kick off the summer counterattack campaign.

Expect to see police patrolling the bars and waving cars into road checks.

Constable Ciaran Feenan says plan a safe way home, such as a cab, bus or designated driver.

And do it before you start drinking, since alcohol is known to hamper common sense.

Police in Vancouver began their counterattack earlier this month and wrote up twice as many violations as the same time last year.

"We hope that this deters anyone from drinking and driving. Certainly we hope that people don't get into vehicles if they know that the drivers aren't sober," says Feenan.

The Delta counterattack runs until August.
