The owner of the Cambie Surgery Centre insists he fully cooperated with BC's Medical Services Commission during an audit which confirmed two of his Vancouver clinics are illegally billing patients for services covered by Medicare.
Doctor Brian Day is reacting to commission chair Tom Vincent's claim the clinics refused investigators access to financial records.
"That is absolutely a false statement, but I can assure you, the Commissioners when they came were given every bit of information we had and we gave them open books. THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY SAY? Well, what they say is false. When we go to court, the facts will come out."
But during that same appearance on CKNW’s Bill Good Show with Michael Smyth, Day refused to disclose the clinics' profits.
Day is currently taking legal action to prove the Canada Health Act is unconstitutional, but yesterday, BC Health Minister Mike de Jong backed up the commission's findings, saying the clinics have indeed broke federal laws.
