ELIMINATION ROUND - 16 CONTESTANTS
WEEKS OF SEPTEMBER 8, 15, 22 & 29
Four (4) contestants will compete each week. Each contestant will participate on one day.
• One contestant will compete Monday, another on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Your date of participation is randomly selected by CJOB.
• On Friday, all four contestants will participate in a one hour show between 3pm and 4pm.
• Following Friday’s show, the week’s winner will be announced and go on to participate in the Semi-Finals the weeks of October 6-10 and October 13-17.
Contestants needs to be available on their designated day as follows:
• 7:10am Rapid Fire Q&A with Larry Updike, live on-air. Contestant will be required to correctly answer 5 current events questions.
• 10:00am Record a 60 second editorial comment, to be played back on-air during Today So Far. Topic chosen by contestant.
• 4:40pm Host Luke Eisbrenner will test your knowledge of current events and ask your opinions. Approximately 3 - 5 minutes.
Friday (all 4 contestants):
• 10:00am CJOB will contact all four contestants and assign topic and guest for Friday afternoon showdown, live on-air from 3p-4p.
• 3:00pm All four contestants in studio with moderator Luke Eisbrenner. Each contestant will have 15 minutes to explore assigned topic and interview assigned guest.
• 5:00pm Luke Eisbrenner will announce winner of the week.
SEMI-FINAL ROUND - 4 CONTESTANTS
WEEKS OF OCTOBER 6 AND 13
Two (2) contestants will compete each week. Winners of weeks 1 and 2 will compete week of October 6-10. Winners of weeks 3 and 4 will compete week of October 13-17.
Weekly format:
• Contestant 1 competes on Tuesday; Contestant 2 competes on Wednesday; both compete in Friday’s hour-long program.
• Contestants need to prepare for the following on their designated day:
• Monday CJOB will assign topics for Friday show (topics will be different for each contestant). Contestant will have the week to research, collect audio and edit interviews. CJOB will provide technical support.
Tuesday Semi-finalist #1
• 7:10am Live on-air, Larry Updike will give contestant a topic to discuss for 60 seconds. Judges looking for content/fluidity of response and no hesitation or repetition.
• Morning Larry Updike will then give the contestant a story to follow up on and provide a 60 second report during Today So Far. Contestant will go out for the morning with a CJOB Reporter.
• 4:40pm Contestant will go out with Brian Barkley in the Traffic Cruiser. Objective is to raise awareness for CJOB’s charitable initiative, Hunger For Hope. Awareness could be raised through a compelling story or fundraising initiative or event.
Wednesday Semi-finalist #2
• As above.
Friday (both contestants):
During live show from 3pm to 4pm, each contestant will have 30 minutes to present research, opinion, interviews on topic assigned on Monday.
• Week’s winner determined by internal panel of judges and CJOB listeners on-line voting.
• Winner announced on Monday, October 20.
FINAL ROUND - 2 CONTESTANTS
WEEK OF OCTOBER 20-24
During the Final week, two contestants will be pitted against each other. The final round format is as follows:
Tuesday: Finalist #1
• 7:10am Live on-air, Larry Updike will give contestant a topic to discuss for 60 seconds. Judges looking for content/fluidity of response and no hesitation or repetition.
The TWIST: Topic will be one word that is provided by the opponent.
Larry Updike will then assign Finalist #1a topic to be recorded at 10:00am for playback on-air during Today So Far.
The TWIST: Topic and position on topic will be provided by Finalist #2.
• 10:00am Record editorial comment.
• 4:40pm Challenge is to raise profile of CJOB and yourself within the community, media and beyond. Think outside the box and within the law.
Wednesday: Finalist #2
• As above
Friday: Final Show, 3pm – 4pm
• Each finalist is on-air for 30 minutes. There will be two segments:
• Your Choice: Your mission is to book the highest profile guest possible and interview.
• Guess Who: CJOB will put a mystery guest on the phone. Your mission is to determine who the guest is through a series of yes or no questions. As soon as mystery guest is determined, you will proceed with interview and open phone lines.
WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT
Monday, October 27. Winner announced on the CJOB Morning show with Larry Updike. Grand prize includes:
• One year contract on CJOB to host weekly talk show (day/time to be determined).
• $5000 Cash.
