Manitoba's senior MP has opened the door to Ottawa funding part of the light rail concept that Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz has been test driving. But Provencher MP Vic Toews says the city and the province will ultimately have to decide what form of rapid transit to build out to the University of Manitoba.
Katz has faced criticism over floating the concept of building light rail instead of finishing a new busway out to the U of M. Phase one of bus rapid transit is already under construction from the Queen Elizabeth Way to Jubilee Avenue.

The Federal government is contributing 25-million in P3 dollars toward extending the Chief Peguis Trail from Henderson Highway to Lagimodiere Blvd. The four kilometere extension is expected to reduce traffic on residential streets and improve east-west traffic flow in the city. North Kildonan city councillor Jeff Browaty tells CJOB, a key component of the project is building an underpass at Rothesay Street...
The Project will also include noise walls to reduce traffic noise, landscaping, and multi-use pathways. The Province is investing up to $9 million, with remaining financing by the City and a private sector partner.

Two 16-year olds from the Garden Hill First Nation have been arrested and charged with manslaughter. Island Lake RCMP were called about a serious assault early Sunday morning. The 32-year old victim has been identified as Terance James Fiddler of Garden Hill. The two suspects are to appear in Provincial Youth Court in Winnipeg Tuesday afternoon.

The City of Winnipeg will take a pass on mosquito fogging tonight. A look at the traps show the mosquito count is down.
However larviciding and residual treatment programs will continue.

The City of Winnipeg wants a 9.7 million dollar CMHC loan to help pay for the construction of new fire-paramedic stations.
A civic committee approved the loan Monday morning. 5.3 million dollars has been set aside by the Provincial government and the city for the project. 15-million would be spent this year for a new station in Sage Creek, to have a station rebuilt in Charleswood, and to move a couple... in St. James and River Heights. The CMHC loan still requires the approval of the city's Executive Policy Committee, and full council.
