Police have arrested three men in a series of OxyContin heists from Winnipeg pharmacies. The first was May 25th at a pharmacy in the 700 block of Watt Street, which was held up by a man with a handgun. Two more pharmacies were held up over the next few days. This past Wednesday, a pharmacy was robbed in the 1700 block of Logan Avenue and a passing motorist noticed suspects in a getaway car. Police jumped into action, and caught two suspects. A third man was nabbed Thursday. The trio is facing robbery and firearms charges, as well as drug trafficking charges related to cannabis.

Manitoba's Premier didn't have a lot to say about the poll CJOB told you about first that puts the Tories ahead of the NDP in support. The web-based survey shows the Tories with 48 per cent support of decided voters to the NDP's 36 percent. Premier Greg Selinger's response was a standard answer from the NDP.
For his part, Progressive Conservative leader Hugh McFadyen didn't have a lot to say about the results either - but he was smiling.
The poll had the Liberals well back at 13 percent support. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percent.

The push is on to develop high quality , eco-friendly paper. To that end, the Manitoba and Federal governments have put up 400-thousand dollars so that Prairie Pulp and Paper can continue to work on its prototype paper. President Jeff Golfman says the investment will allow his firm to produce up to 200-thousand sheets for further testing. It's "tree-free".. "clorine-free" paper made from Manitoba straw.

The Canadian Wheat Board has released a grim preliminary crop forecast because of what it calls unprecedented wet weather across the Prairies. Bruce Burnett, the board's director of weather and market analysis, says excess rain has washed away the hope of seeding for many farmers. Burnett estimates three million to five million hectares could go unplanted this year in Western Canada. The amount of wheat put into the ground will be the smallest since 1971 and the barley crop is also looking at its lowest seeding since 1965.

The City of Winnipeg has yet to decide if taxi-cabs will be allowed to use 'Diamond Lanes' during rush hour. Right now the lanes are reserved for city transit buses and cyclists during the peak traffic hours. A committee made up of transit officials is studying an idea that would also allow taxi cabs to use the lanes during rush hour. These cabbies tell CJOB they want the rules changed because they transport passengers too.
The committee could make it's recommendations later this summer, but it would still need city council approval.
