Transit fare increase on the way
CJOB's Clay Young reporting
10/8/2008

Winnipeg's public works committee has approved a transit fare increase.

Fares will increase a nickel for regular adult cash fares to two dollars and thirty cents per ride effective January 1st,  2009.

Reduced and senior cash fares will also increase by five cents and the cost to buy tickets for handi transit and bus passes is also going up..

Transit needs the hike to cover rising wage and benefit costs as well as the cost of diesel fuel. It has shot up more than 50 per cent since 2006..

City council is expected to approve the new fares later this month..
