IKEA proposal has the support of EPC
CJOB's Robert Holland reporting
3/19/2009

Winnipeg's Executive Policy Committee has unanimously approved a plan for a proposed massive retail and office development in southwest Winnipeg. It would be anchored by a 350,000-square-foot IKEA store.

The development would cover nearly 81 hectares at Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Boulevard. Over several years, a hotel, condos and more large retail stores would be added.

Wednesday's hearing before EPC was the only opportunity for the public to weigh in on the proposal.  The hearing lasted about ten hours.     More than 50 delegations were registered to address EPC and the presentations continued into the late afternoon..

The results of the EPC vote will go to council for another vote, likely next week.
